Brief Profile:

Dr Thuraya graduated from the faculty of Medicine in Baghdad University and was ranked 
first among 299 graduates. In the year 2000 she got her Arab Board certification and 
later in the year 2009 she obtained the fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of 
Glasgow. Dr. Maher is also very active academically and her academic work as an 
assistant professor in ophthalmology in the faculty of Medicine/ Baghdad University got 
her involved in research work and she published many scientific papers and actively 
participated in national and international scientific conferences and meetings. 

Her experience in the field of ophthalmology extends over two decades, during which she 
helped a great number of patients with eye diseases. She personally uses the latest 
equipment’s and techniques in diagnosing and treating her patients. She has special 
interest in investigating dry eye disease and in managing cases of lacrimal passages 
obstruction and also treating conditions of vascular eye diseases such as diabetic 
retinopathy with laser and intravitreal injections. This is in addition to performing 
cataract surgeries, LASIK and many other eye surgeries.
